Divorce and remarriage has become an accepted standard in society. But, what does the Lord say about it? Do you want to know?
The Law of God is ONE MAN for ONE WOMAN until death. “For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man” (Rom. 7:2-3). Jesus said in Luke 16:18, “Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.” This is God’s Law on the subject!
No divorce and remarriage is the law of the Lord. However, there is one exception to this law. In Matthew 19:9 Jesus said, “...Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” Jesus said, the spouse who puts away (divorces) their mate because of their mate’s fornication (sexual impurity) is the only person in a divorce situation who can marry again without living in adultery (sin). Those involved in this question obviously do not fit into this category and therefore cannot divorce their mates and marry again with God’s approval. However, their mates would have a right to divorce them (those who committed adultery) and marry again since they “put away” their spouse because of their spouse’s fornication.
The Lord’s statement on the subject is so simple one needs help to misunderstand it. And, sad to say, there are plenty of “preachers” willing to offer such help. They do so without the Lord’s authority.
If divorce and remarriage is permitted in God’s sight, then God
is the one who must authorize it. The fact is, no Scripture authorizes
a divorce and subsequent remarriage on any grounds other than fornication.
Jesus made the Law of God clear on this subject and I, nor you, or anyone
else has the right to change it no matter what the circumstances may be.
Will you accept God’s Word?
