I Do Not See Anything Wrong With It
Robert Meredith
“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). What was said concerning Israel during the days of the Judges can certainly be said about today’s America. Israel did what they wanted to and our people do what they want. When questions arise in matters of morals, ethics and religion, many today have the attitude, “I do not see anything wrong with it.” Some in our land are either immoral or amoral. God, however, declares that there is right and wrong and that one must have authority for what one does in the name of religion.
The Holy Spirit had the Apostle Paul to pen, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…” (Colossians 3:17). This verse simply means that whatever a person does religiously, he must have authority from God’s Word to do it. How often have you heard individuals, as they were talking about something religious, say, “I do not see anything wrong with it.” When it comes to religious practices the question is not, “What is wrong with it?” The question is, “What has God authorized to be done?” He is the Lord; one should follow Him. God’s wants and desires are far
different from man’s. In Isaiah 55:8-9 one reads, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Man should have the attitude of Jeremiah as recorded in Jeremiah 10:23, “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” In religious matters one errs when he says, “I do not see anything wrong with it!” Man may not see anything wrong with something, but God may.
Not only do people approach religion with the same attitude as the Israelites of the book of Judges, but they also approach moral issues the same way. In our world, divorce is rampant, sexual promiscuity is commonplace, homosexuality is honored and abortion is slaughtering our unborn. The world says, “What is wrong with these things?” God says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). What does God say about divorce? In Matthew 19, it is recorded that the Jews came to Jesus hoping to entrap Him with a question concerning divorce. Jesus set forth His law on the subject in verse nine of that chapter. “And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” Some today try to find a way around God’s teaching on this subject. A man in a western state is advocating that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are not New Testament doctrine because the teaching recorded in them was taught during the time the Law of Moses was in effect. The Apostle Paul knew that Jesus’ teaching found in Matthew 19:9 applied to Christians, because he referred to it and said the Christians of Corinth were under its teaching (1 Corinthians 7:10). It is amazing the lengths some will go when they do not like what God has said. Too, our world does not see anything wrong with sexual relations outside of marriage. God says those who are guilty of such and who fail to repent will be lost (Hebrews 13:4). In our land, homosexuality is paraded down our streets and anyone who voices a concern is labeled as unloving, ignorant and prejudice. God is not unloving, ignorant or a respecter of persons (John 3:16; Romans 2:11) and He declared that those who are involved in this abomination will suffer punishment (1 Corinthians 6:9). Millions of innocent infants have been murdered by abortion. Mankind says a woman has a right to do with her body as she sees fit. God says it is murder (Exodus 21:22-23).
Hopefully, man will learn lessons from the Israelite’s mistakes. In their day “every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” My friends, there is right and wrong, and man must live according to God’s ways if he desires heaven as his eternal home.
